FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 27, 2009 Contact: Lisa Subeck (608) 358-7090 NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin Praises President Obama’s Action on Dangerous Bush-Era Rule Madison, WI – NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin Executive Director Lisa Subeck praised President Barack Obama’s announcement today that his administration is moving forward to repeal the Federal Refusal Rule.This rule, put into place at the end of the Bush Administration, could have blocked access to birth control, emergency contraception, and referrals for abortion care for women in need of these services. “President Obama’s action to repeal the Federal Refusal Rule is a victory for woman in Wisconsin and throughout the country,” Subeck said. “The Federal Refusal Rule gave broad discretion to insurance companies, hospitals, and HMOs to deny women birth control and other critical reproductive health services.
