Leading Pro-Choice Organization Announces Special Weekend Campaign Event
MADISON – NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin, the state’s leading organization devoted exclusively to protecting women’s health and privacy, announced today that Nancy Keenan, President of NARAL Pro-Choice America, will campaign for presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama this weekend in Wisconsin. “Women and men committed to access to a full range of reproductive health options, including birth control, are excited to see Nancy campaigning in Wisconsin,” said Sachin Chheda, President of NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin. “As a former statewide elected official in Montana, and a nationally known advocate, Nancy Keenan will help highlight the differences between Barack Obama and John McCain on these critical health issues.” Keenan will appear at events in communities across Wisconsin, including La Crosse, Madison, and outside Milwaukee. “John McCain has voted against women’s health and privacy in 125 of the 130 opportunities he’s had as a U.S. Senator,” said Keenan. “He’s committed himself to overturning Roe v. Wade and passing a Constitutional Amendment to ban abortion in all circumstances, including for rape and incest victims and when a woman’s health is at risk. McCain opposes efforts to keep young people safe from STDs and supports a pharmacist’s right to steal a woman’s birth control prescription without filling it.
“I, and the more than one million members of NARAL Pro-Choice America, support Sen. Barack Obama for president, and I’ll do everything I can to make sure that women know that John McCain has an extreme position on women’s rights.” # # # Local and state media interested in interviewing President Keenan can make arrangements by calling Ted Miller at (202) 271-7686
