Leading Pro-Choice Organization Endorses Tara Johnson for State Senate in 32nd District

Posted: 08/13/2008

La Crosse, WI - NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin PAC endorsed candidate Tara Johnson for the State Senate in the 32nd district today. As the director of the La Crosse Area United Way and a La Crosse County Supervisor, Johnson has been a tireless advocate for health care reform and women's rights.

"Western Wisconsin needs a Senator who will reform our broken health care system to ensure that all women have affordable access to the full range of reproductive health care," said Alana Erickson, a student at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. "Tara has proven that she will be a voice for reform."

Tara Johnson is running against incumbent Dan Kapanke in the general election on November 4. Senator Kapanke received an F for his lifetime voting record on NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin's recently released legislative scorecard, which can be viewed at http://www.prochoicewisconsin.org/ <http://www. prochoicewisconsin.org> .

"Senator Kapanke is one of the most extreme anti-choice members of the State Senate," said NPCW Political Director Carmen Marg-Patton. "This legislative session, he was one of only six senators to vote against Compassionate Care for Rape Victims, a commonsense bill to help rape victims prevent pregnancy after a sexual assault. Four years is enough of Kapanke's anti-women, anti-birth control agenda."

"Unlike Senator Kapanke, Tara Johnson believes that politicians should not interfere in the personal and private medical decisions a woman makes with her doctor," said Marg-Patton. "She understands the importance of increasing access to birth control to prevent unintended pregnancy.

"We are excited to endorse her as a candidate who will advocate on behalf of Wisconsin women once she is elected into the State Senate."
