Meet the Real McCain: Anti-Choice, Anti-Birth Control, Anti-Women
Madison, WI – NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin executive director Kelda Helen Roys issued the following statement in response to Wisconsin Right to Life’s endorsement of John McCain for President: “Wisconsin Right to Life’s endorsement of John McCain today comes as no surprise to pro-choice activists. Since arriving in Washington, DC, in 1983, John McCain has taken 130 votes related to reproductive health and rights, and voted against women’s health 125 times.
John McCain has a 25-year record of voting against women’s health and privacy. He has consistently voted anti-choice on legislation related to abortion, contraception and sex education and refused to cosponsor or support legislation that would prevent unintended pregnancy or reduce the need for abortion.
If we’ve learned anything from the last eight years, it’s that we cannot continue George W. Bush’s failed policies of denying women access to basic health care, and allowing politicians to interfere in personal, private health care decisions between a woman and her doctor. ###
