Madison, WI – NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin, the state’s only organization dedicated exclusively to political advocacy for reproductive rights, announced its support for the following Wisconsin State Senate candidates for the November 2nd general election:
§ Rep. Lena Taylor, 4th District (parts of the Cities of Milwaukee, Glendale, and Wauwatosa) § Jennifer Morales, 8th District (parts of Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Washington and Waukesha Counties) § Sen. Robert Wirch, 22nd District (parts of Kenosha and Racine Counties) § Sen. Fred Risser, 26th District (parts of Dane County) § Brad Pfaff, 32nd District (La Crosse, Vernon, and Crawford Counties, and parts of Monroe and Richland Counties)
Brad Pfaff recently won a dynamic primary race, and faces a competitive election against perennial anti-choice candidate Dan Kapanke. “Kapanke’s anti-women views are unacceptable to the vast majority of Wisconsin voters,” said Kelda Helen Roys, Executive Director of NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin. “He would force a 14-year old incest victim to carry a pregnancy to term – after denying her access to emergency contraception, which could have prevented the pregnancy in the first place.”
Pfaff is committed to access to health care for all Wisconsin residents, and will provide leadership on these issues so crucial to women and families.
Sen. Robert Wirch is one of the legislature’s strongest voices for reproductive rights, defending patients’ right to accurate information from their health care providers. Wirch’s opponent, Reince Priebus, has been endorsed by anti-choice groups who seek to limit women’s reproductive health options.
Jennifer Morales is challenging Sen. Alberta Darling, who voted against contraceptive equity, and voted to allow concealed weapons to be brought into health care facilities. Morales is dedicated to protecting women’s access to the full range of reproductive health care, and is in excellent position to oust Darling.
Rep. Taylor and Sen. Risser are both unopposed by major party candidates.
NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin has an aggressive plan to reach and mobilize pro-choice voters, including a statewide network of activists and members. After the decisive victory of all of NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin’s endorsed candidates in Wisconsin’s September 14th primaries, pro-choice voters are energized for victory in November.
“This fall’s election is the most important of our lifetime,” said Catey Doyle, Chair of NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin PAC. “We must – and will – elect candidates who support common-sense policies: family planning, access to basic preventative health care, comprehensive age-appropriate sex education, and accurate medical information, so that women can make informed choices to protect their own and their families’ health.”
