Madison, WI – NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin, the state’s only organization dedicated exclusively to political advocacy for reproductive rights, announced its support today for the following Wisconsin State Senate candidates for election or re-election:
Lena Taylor, in the 4th District, to represent parts of the Cities of Milwaukee, Glendale, and Wauwatosa, Jennifer Morales, in the 8th District, to represent parts of Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Washington and Waukesha Counties, Robert Wirch, in the 22nd District, to represent parts of Kenosha and Racine Counties, Fred Risser,, in the 26th District, to represent parts of Dane County, and Brad Pfaff, in the 32nd District, to represent La Crosse, Vernon, and Crawford Counties, and parts of Monroe and Richland Counties.
“These candidates recognize the importance of reproductive health and privacy,” said Catey Doyle, Chair of the NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin PAC. “We are confident they will stand up for common-sense health policies, like age-appropriate sex education and family planning, and that they will fight to keep private medical decisions in the hands of women, their doctors, and their families.”
NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin will bring significant resources to elect pro-choice candidates. An endorsement from NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin is especially beneficial to candidates in close races.
“This fall’s elections are the most important in our lifetime for reproductive rights,” said Kelda Helen Roys, Executive Director of NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin. “With anti-choice politicians threatening women’s health at every level of government, we will be raising our voices and hitting the streets for leaders who believe in a woman’s right to choose.”
Political experts have found that single women make up a huge group of potential voters in 2004 – this demographic group has the power to affect elections at every level. Polling data shows that these women are overwhelmingly pro-choice, and support candidates who are pro-choice as well.
NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin has an aggressive plan to identify, persuade, and mobilize these voters to elect candidates that respect women’s equality.
In the last legislative session, NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin helped to defeat over a dozen of the most anti-choice legislative proposals.
“We will not go through another session where anti-choice extremists attack the rights of Wisconsin women with impunity,” Roys said. “This year, more than any other, voters understand that our health, our privacy, our rights, and our lives are at stake.”
