"Choice for America" Television Ads Highlight Grave Threats to Choice

Modified: 08/28/2003

NARAL Pro-Choice America Foundation launches an ambitious television ad campaign today in the Madison media market. These ads are part of NARAL Pro-Choice America Foundation’s Choice for America (CFA) campaign, a multi-million dollar, multi-market, multi-year grassroots and public education campaign that seeks to mobilize pro-choice Americans to act on their pro-choice values.

“Reproductive freedom is more profoundly threatened now than at any time since the U.S. Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision thirty years ago. In Wisconsin, our Assembly is fully two-thirds anti-choice and our Senate has an anti-choice majority as well. The leaders in the U.S. Senate and U.S. House are allied with President Bush against reproductive choice. In fact, when President Bush signs the so-called partial birth abortion ban into law, he will become the first President in history to criminalize safe and necessary abortion procedures,” notes Deborah Lukovich, NARAL Wisconsin’s Executive Director.

“Most frightening, our highest court is just one vote away from overturning Roe v. Wade and the retirement of a Supreme Court justice in the coming weeks is likely. President Bush cites Justices Thomas and Scalia as his model justices – both believe Roe was incorrectly decided,” continues Deborah Lukovich.

“We believe these ads will stir pro-choice Wisconsinites to take unprecedented action to protect reproductive choice. We still have time to protect our right to choose, but we must act very quickly. These ads are a stark reminder that this Administration seeks to deny women an essential constitutional freedom,” adds Deborah Lukovich.

NARAL Wisconsin is hosting screenings of the ads in both Madison and Milwaukee this week. Members of the media interested in attending a screening should contact Courtney at 414-271-4811 or cemery@naralwi.org.
