Wisconsin Right to Life: Stop Distorting the Truth about AB 67
NARAL Wisconsin condemns Wisconsin Right to Life’s most recent effort to mislead the public about Assembly Bill 67. In a press release issued yesterday, Wisconsin Right to Life attacks Rep. Sheldon Wasserman, M.D., for attending a press conference organized by opponents of AB 67. However, Rep. Wasserman wasn’t in attendance yesterday. “This is but the most recent example of the lengths to which some will go to distort the truth about AB 67,” notes Deborah Lukovich, NARAL Wisconsin’s Executive Director.
“Wisconsin Right to Life has chosen to attack Rep. Wasserman’s pro-choice values to distract the public from the grave threat that AB 67 poses. Wisconsin law has long permitted physicians and other health care professionals to decline to participate in abortion procedures – the implications of AB 67 are far broader. AB 67 seeks to permit medical professionals to refuse to provide or even discuss a wide range of health care services, even medically urgent services. This measure provides no protection to patients – medical professionals are not required to provide referrals or even notify their patients in advance of those services that they do not provide or discuss. AB 67 also denies a patient all recourse if her health is harmed as a result of her provider’s refusal. This is an unmistakable and egregious attack on our right to comprehensive, quality health care,” adds Deborah Lukovich.
NARAL Wisconsin applauds Reps. Terese Berceau, Jon Richards and Mark Miller for demonstrating their commitments to quality, comprehensive health care for all Wisconsinites at yesterday’s press conference.
