U.S. House Vote Expected Today on Measure to Ban Safe, Legal Abortion Procedures
NARAL Wisconsin calls on Reps. Baldwin, Green, Kind, Kleczka, Obey, Petri, Ryan and Sensenbrenner to oppose H.R. 760, the so-called partial birth abortion ban. “‘Partial birth’ abortion is a political term, not a medical one. Anti-choice leadership in the House employs inflammatory, medically inaccurate rhetoric to mislead their colleagues and the American public about this measure. This bill would not ban just one procedure – rather, the deliberately vague language of this measure would ban multiple safe procedures,” notes Deborah Lukovich, NARAL Wisconsin’s Executive Director.
“H.R. 760 contains the very same flaws struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court in Stenberg v. Carhart in 2000. We hope that Wisconsin’s representatives to Congress are not so intent on hindering access to comprehensive reproductive health care that they are willing to ignore Supreme Court precedent,” adds Deborah Lukovich.
“This vote offers our U.S. Representatives an opportunity to demonstrate their commitments to the health care needs of women in our state,” continues Deborah Lukovich
