NARAL Wisconsin PAC Endorses Joel Brennan for Senate District 7

Posted: 03/14/2003

The NARAL Wisconsin PAC is pleased to formally announce the endorsement of Joel Brennan for Wisconsin Senate in District 7. “The NARAL Wisconsin PAC is very excited to work on behalf of Joel Brennan in the coming weeks. Joel has a great deal of public policy experience and we believe him to be very well qualified to serve the people of Wisconsin Senate District 7. Joel has an unwavering commitment to reproductive freedom and he understands that choice faces grave threats today,” notes Deborah Lukovich, NARAL Wisconsin’s Executive Director.

Mr. Brennan adds, “There has never been a more important time in Wisconsin to fight for reproductive choice. A new and dangerous faction has emerged in the Senate bent on repealing reproductive rights in any manner possible. Currently a bill is pending in the Senate that would permit a pharmacist to deny a patient contraception if he or she believes contraception causes abortion. Under this measure, the belief need not be medically accurate or even reasonable. An amendment was added to the bill recently that would change the language so that a pharmacist would be protected from having to ‘rationally defend his or her belief.’ We are but weeks into the legislative session, and this is but a taste of the destructive proposals to come. This fight is not going away anytime soon, and the people of District 7 deserve a Senator who respects reproductive rights and is willing to fight for them every day in office.”

“The balance in the Wisconsin Senate is precarious – anti-choice legislators nearly outnumber pro-choice legislators sufficiently to override a veto from Governor Doyle. There has never been a more important time for pro-choice people to vote their pro-choice values. Our next new Senator must be a voice for women and families,” continues Deborah Lukovich.
