Hands on Wisconsin: Pro-Life Wisconsin Drags Neumann and Walker Out of the Mainstream
Source: Wisconsin State Journal By: Phil Hands I expect republican candidates for governor to oppose abortion rights. But I was pretty upset to learn that both Mark Neumann and Scott Walker have accepted the endorsement of the radical anti-reproductive health group Pro-Life Wisconsin. I was at one time fiercely pro-choice. But since I've become a father, my views on abortion have moderated. I love my son, and it breaks my heart to think of a world where he wouldn't exist because of an abortion. And while I'm still pro-choice (namely because, as a man, in the end it's none of my business what a woman does with her own body), I can understand why so many people are adamantly pro-life. But Pro-Life Wisconsin is different. They oppose abortions in all cases, including those of rape or incest, and even oppose birth control. This is a radical ideology. Birth control is the greatest tool that we have as a society to prevent abortions. Pro-Life Wisconsin's opposition to this medicine is evidence that they are more concerned with repressing women, than they are with saving the lives of unborn children. They are a fringe group whose endorsement should be as welcomed as the endorsement of PETA or the Earth Liberation Front. Alas, both Mark Neumann and Scott Walker have decided to abandon the mainstream, to appeal to the radically conservative voters who turn out for this state's Republican primary.
