Democrats Deserve Pro Choice Support
Corrine Donley: Letter ¦ Oshkosh Northwestern ¦ 12 October 2008 I have been strongly against the concept of abortion all of my life. My belief is that at the moment of conception, a child is “born.” That, for me, means that any chemical or medical procedure that purposefully destroys that zygote or embryo at any time is murder. Since I also believe that murder is a sin, I could never abort a baby, regardless of its condition, deformed in any way. In the same vane, I could never abort a baby who was born out of wedlock or rape. Considering abortion due to my own inconvenience is unthinkable! Therefore, when I was young, I thought that I should tell everyone I knew that abortion sinful. I spoke loudly and alienated friends and acquaintances that thought differently.
Now I am much older and not as opinionated, I still believe as I always did, but I do not tell others that I believe they should think as I. My attitude is that every woman (and man) has the right to believe as they wish about when a baby becomes a human, the reasons that are appropriate for an abortion, and whether or not abortion is murder.
I have joined with NARAL, a pro-choice organization, to say that it is a woman’s choice to have an abortion. NARAL’s purpose is not to see that women make that choice, but to assist women in preventing pregnancy and making a wise choice for themselves as to whether or not they will carry the child.
If you believe, as do I, that women have the choice to carry a child or not, I implore you to vote for Barack Obama as President, Jessica King as State Senator, and Gordon Hintz as Assembly Representative on November 4. They publicly support pro-choice.
