Anti-abortion group: 3 college newspapers refuse its ad
by Associated Press ¦ WBAY Green Bay ¦ 17 March 2008 An anti-abortion group is criticizing three college newspapers that refused to run its ad warning students going on spring break against emergency contraceptives. Virginia Zignego of the Brookfield-based Pro-Life Wisconsin says newspapers at 10 other campuses accepted the ad. She says her group is angry, frustrated and confused by the different decisions on the quarter-page ad, which states that the so-called morning-after-pill form of emergency contraceptive can be deadly. But Lisa Boyce of Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin in Madison calls the ad "absolutely incorrect" and says it was the obligation of newspapers to check the accuracy of facts in their ads when deciding whether to run them. Student newspapers at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, UW-Stout and Marquette University in Milwaukee refused to run the ad. Student newspapers at UW campuses in Madison, Superior, Platteville and Milwaukee were among those that accepted the ad. The Badger Herald, 1 of 2 UW-Madison student newspapers, ran the ad.
