NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin Announces 2012 Endorsements for State Legislature
Madison, WI – Today NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin, the political leader of the reproductive
rights movement, announced its second round of endorsements for the Wisconsin State Legislature.
"We are thrilled to offer our support and endorsement to these outstanding candidates,” said Jenni Dye,
Executive Director of NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin. "These candidates are leaders in our state who will stand
up for privacy and freedom and who are committed to advancing a common sense, prevention-centered
approach to reproductive health.”
The current legislative session saw numerous attacks on women’s health and reproductive rights, including
further restrictions on access to safe abortion services and eliminating funding for critical women’s health
services through Planned Parenthood. The Healthy Youth Act, which had ensured Wisconsin youth received
age-appropriate and medically accurate sex education programming, including information about both
abstinence and contraceptives, was also repealed.
"At a time when women’s access to reproductive health care and common sense sex education are under attack,
it is more important than ever to support candidates who will strongly support women,” said
Dye. "We must elect candidates who will not simply protect the status quo, but who will also be strong
advocates for ensuring women’s access to family planning services, birth control, and legal, safe abortion
services.
