Good sex education should be mandatory
My son's friend (now age 32) came to me at age 19 and discussed his fears that his girlfriend might be pregnant. She was 'late'. (Thankfully she was not pregnant.) He did not understand how she could possibly be pregnant since they used birth control. I asked him which method of birth control he had used and he responded that he had 'taken it out'. I had to explain to him why that was not a good method of birth control - which, of course, involved explaining how his body worked. He had no idea. Once he understood, I ordered him to carry condoms with him and for a long time afterword whenever he came over he had to pull a condom out of his pocket and show it to me. I was really distressed that a young man his age didn't know how his body worked. Even though it was occasionally embarrassing, I taught my son everything he needed to know about his body. I was happy that his friend came to me. I believe that good sex education should be mandatory and that it should include information on birth control. ~Mary Ann
