Become an Intern
NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin is the political arm of the pro-choice movement. We are always looking for enthusiastic, motivated interns. Interns typically start in late January, mid-May and early September. Our office is located at 122 State Street, a quick 15 minute walk from the UW-Madison campus and short bus ride from Edgewood College. While interning at NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin, interns receive an insider view of a non-profit political organization. Interns work in a fun and relaxed environment with some of the top players in the reproductive rights movement. NPCW puts significant resources in training interns to help them develop skills for their future careers and allows interns to take significant leadership roles in major programs. Qualifications: All applicants must be fully pro-choice and committed to ensuring all women have access to the full range of reproductive health care including abortion. Interns must be outgoing, able to work with a wide variety of people, self-motivated and able to work efficiently and independently. Fall 2010 Available Internships Research Assistant
Words from past interns: "It was amazing to come to NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin and meet women who were just as vigilantly pro-choice as myself. The interns learned a lot from each other and from the NPCW staff about how much still needs to be done in the reproductive rights movement...and we really had a lot of fun together!" ~Molly, Events Intern, Summer 2007-Fall 2007 "I didn't know much about NARAL and it's function before becoming an intern; all I knew was that it is an organization devoted to protecting women's rights and I wanted to help! My connections at NPCW and through the state affiliate network helped me to get me my first post-graduate job and now I feel lucky to work with so many talented people from many different backgrounds who have all come together to share their strengths in our fight for women's rights." ~Amy, Grassroots Organizing Intern, Summer 2007 "Interning at NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin was a great experience. Not only did I learn a lot, but I loved my fellow interns and staff members and always enjoyed coming to work. Since the staff at NPCW is small, I felt that all of the research I did directly contributed to the organization and its goal of promoting reproductive choice. My opinion was always valued and there was always time for my questions to be answered. I was encouraged to explore other areas of interest while doing research which helped to broaden my political knowledge and solidify my stance on various reproductive, family and health care issues that were currently developing within the state. Interning at NPCW has made me more aware of the political situation in the US and how it affects my choices as a woman." ~Hilary, Research Intern, Summer 2007 "As an intern at NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin, I learned a great deal about the pro-choice movement both nationally and in Wisconsin. Reflecting on the time I spent there, NPCW was the best internship I've had - the staff is helpful and encouraging while at the same time, interns are granted a great deal of responsibility. I conducted research on topics I was interested in and also learned professional skills that helped me in future, non-reproductive rights related jobs. If you are interested in interning at a progressive organization, NPCW is a great place to be." ~ Corey, Policy Researcher, Spring 2007 "Interning at NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin was one of the most invaluable experiences of my college career. During my time at NPCW, I not only worked with a fun and engaging staff, but was also exposed to many issues that people my age do not normally come across, such as the Compassionate Care for Rape Victims bill. With NPCW, I not only learned about reproductive rights, but also the importance of not for profit organizations in our society." ~ Leah, Communications Intern, Spring 2007 "Interning at NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin was a really valuable experience for me. I was given a great deal of responsibility on projects, which helped me hone my time management and organizational skills. I would highly recommend interning at NPCW to anyone who wants to learn skills they can put toward a career in a fun, progressive environment." ~ Meredith, Events & Research Intern, Fall 2006-Spring 2007 |
