Tell Speaker Huebsch to keep his promise!
Republican Assembly Speaker Mike Huebsch promised Representatives Terry Musser (R-Black River Falls) and Mark Pocan (D-Madison) that he would schedule a floor vote on the Compassionate Care for Rape Victims bill (SB 129/AB 377) by the end of 2007. With only one week of floor activity left on the 2007 calendar, the vote would occur during the week of December 11, if Speaker Huebsch keeps his promise. The Compassionate Care for Rape Victims bill would require all Wisconsin hospitals to provide rape victims information about and access to emergency contraception (EC). Currently, only one-third of Wisconsin hospitals have a policy of dispensing EC without exception. After five years of grassroots organizing and intensive lobbying, Wisconsin is very close to passing the Compassionate Care for Rape Victims bill – our state's first pro-choice bill in over a decade! But first, Rep. Huebsch must keep his promise. Rep. Huebsch needs to hear from you! He needs to know that the people of Wisconsin value access to emergency contraception for rape victims to help prevent pregnancy after an assault. Speak out! Tell Speaker Huebsch to keep his promise and schedule a floor vote for Compassionate Care for Rape Victims on December 11.
