Thank Democrats Who Voted Against the Gundrum Amendment

Modified: 11/13/2007

The Assembly Judiciary Committee voted 6-4 to destroy the Compassionate Care for Rape Victims bill (SB 129/AB 377) by attaching a horrible amendment rolling back the rights of rape victims.

All four of the Democrats voted to preserve the Compassionate Care for Rape Victims bill in its original form.

The original version of Compassionate Care would require all of Wisconsin's emergency rooms to provide information about and access to emergency birth control for rape victims.  Currently, only one-third of Wisconsin's emergency rooms have a policy of dispensing emergency birth control to rape victims.

However, the amendment would allow hospitals to withhold information about and access to emergency contraception from rape victims – without any recourse for victims.

Speak out! Thank the four democratic members of the Assembly Judiciary Committee for voting against Gundrum's amendment. Click here to be taken to our take action page!
